The topic will be about Social Media, a promotional method that is at an all time high. The highest of the high peaks in terms usage and the human digestion of the images, personalities, stories, propaganda etc that we expose ourselves to. Social Media can be a very useful tool for a musical artist that is trying to find a niche and promote and peddle their wares. but it can also be a slippery slope in terms of how much you can potentially play yourself out i.e. over saturate the market.
For instance if you’re on Facebook you are can connect to an array of users instantly. This makes many assume they have ultimate power and they share a lot thinking this will reach more each time they post. A problem I myself have been faced with. Well the issue with this is that Facebook limits the scope of where posts go so no matter how many times you post it it only reaches so far and so many. Yes you are able to pay to boost your post, an option that is effective but it is gonna cost ya. The point is that using Facebook for spreading your message is only so effective.
Custom Social Media Platforms
Using certain social networking sites built for musicians specifically are more effective yet only to a point. By using programs like SoundCloud or ReverbNation we are able to hone the message and let people who are seeking your music know what we’re about. These sites are helpful but also can prove to be a void or chasm where your stuff echoes unheard. You must understand how and where to share. Learn the right and wrong ways to use the hashtag and how to properly label your shares to optimize the impressions it leaves.
It’s all about directing the message and knowing how to make a calculated push to get that link or post shared to the right people at the right time. Make sure that you don’t overplay your message and let’s all learn to use a personal touch to share our art. Less can be more if you make a calculated and educated pathway for promoting ourselves.
