An example is being made of some of the towns people by way of having their faces removed. If I was drawing something more realistic I wouldn’t go this route. The drawing would be to horrific and gory. But since I was working in a more cartoony style I thought I could get away with it . The guy in this page looks more like a mexican sugar skull so not so bad.

This does bring up the issue of violence for entertainment. I have to admit I do find comic book and movie violence fun. Though movie carnage can not sit so well with me because of the level of realism they can achieve. Some movie violence I wish I could unsee. Like the ear cutting off scene in RESERVOIR DOGS. I won’t see that movie again because of that scene. I don’t have a comic book equivalent of that. An evil character made CAT WOMAN‘s sister eat her husbands eyeballs but that didn’t feel as disturbing. For some reason comic books have a softer effect on me as far as violence goes.
If violence is well placed and moves the story along I think it’s ok. And yes if it demonstrates superhuman powers it is sooooo much fun! I think there are limits to the levels of violence shown corresponding with who your audience is. As a storyteller you definitely have a responsibility there.
