The Mexicans and the Historian by Joseph J. García
The age is now Mexican, when white men chase their golden end
“Invincible” and a fool, chasing sons, while stalking mothers and daughters
who fears the empire’s soldiers?
as they trod stolen soil in their final hour
Of ill-begotten power
When not even the police will defend
as they rot in disdain ignorantly mistaking the Mexican in vain
Two tall men, from Jalisco and Tejas
Of a gallant tradition between them
Protecting our collective memory
For the Mexican Revolution comes to the rescue again
Where protection arrives from so-called criminal men
Who cast aside aimed fear and hatred
to protect the Distinguished American Scholar of Mexican History!
Viva México! for it never ends
Tis but the lasting contribution of Carranza, Obrégon, Villa, Zapata, Guevara, Sandino, Cárdenas Louverture and Bólivar’s sons all of them
We are the undying spirit that reaches from beyond
Fond of the valiant caballero
who’s duty José Martí spelled out to the empire chagrin
fighting every injustice, only contradictions can defend
Patria o muerte, sentiments few comprehend.
