The AWAKENER is being exiled into deep space for changing the course of a culture, to much to soon for them. This page was a bit of a struggle for me. I saw the image in my head clearly but couldn’t bring it out onto the page the way I wanted. My imagination was working fine, reality was the issue. My first attempt at it was weak. I was trying to show to much and the image just got to busy.
Jack Kirby and the Helping Hand
I Needed help. I could see my Jack Kirby influence {Jack Kirby is a famous comic book master). coming out in the drawing so I decided to look at some of his comics. An old issue of FANTASTIC FOUR with the THING and MR FANTASTIC working in their science lab did it for me.
What would Jack do? I thought. Bold figure at the forefront, weird and utterly nonsensical machinery as an accent. That was the formula that I needed. I added my own spin on that and there it was. The drawing worked out! I am proud or this page and If he were still alive I wonder what Jack Kirby would have thought of it.
